So my trip to an actual movie premier last week has got me thinking about films. I’ve taken a shit ton of classes on film, media theory and screen writing and all it really has amounted to was the worlds most impressive Netflix queue. After talking with the wonderfully quirky Brittany Andrews about porn from a filmmaker’s perspective I started thinking about trying to review some porn/ erotica films that push the envelope and or deserve a little shine.
There’s a whole world of erotic film out there that so many people are ignoring. There is even an Independent Erotic Film Festival that is ONLY show casing films meant to titillate yet stimulate a little more than your erogenous zones. There are good examples online as well as movies coming out that I’m interested it.
Sanatorium
This movie is releasing Sept. 7th and is not just a porno but a psychological thriller.
Its described as :
“A twisted, mesmerizing story about an iconic porn super star discovering a dark secret world of perverts occupied by Senators, Lawyers, Priests and other do-gooders, whose public images as anti-porn crusaders are in direct opposition of their wicked lives behind closed doors.
This original tale of descent into insanity focuses on a US senator, an anti-porn crusader, who’s awaiting his sexual liaison with a porn star in his hotel suite after a press conference in which he’s just announced an initiative to rid America of pornography. The Senator watches two luscious beauties have sex on his bed while he unwinds with a cocktail. Later, he listens to the porn star’s story of descent into insanity as he awaits his opportunity to seduce her. This twisted subplot follows her life of sex ultimately pointing out very clearly to the Senator that he’s a hypocrite. He isn’t shaken, but he doesn’t know she has a devious plan for him after they’ve had heated sex in a dramatic story-twisting conclusion!
The story takes the viewer into a sizzling world of sexual encounters, threesomes, anal sex and interracial lascivious liaisons only to find the government officials exposed to what they really are behind closed doors.”
Now I’m all about movies about hypocrisy and how it drives people nutty. I don’t know why in 2010 interracial sex is mentioned like a big taboo but it seems like its exploring and interesting concept. It also stars James Deen , whom I adore. James Dean performs frequently with Burning Angel. All in all I think it will be worth my time.
Matinee
Directed by Feminist Porn winning Jennifer Lyon Bell this film centers on two actors whose careers depend on making their passion for each other off the stage come forward in their performances on the stage. This film is still making its rounds in the festival circuit and has drawn a bit of controversy.
Its described as:
“Stage actors Mariah and Daniel play lovers every night, but their onstage romance lacks spark. One slow afternoon, they discover that today’s matinée performance will make or break both their careers. Daniel wants to make big changes, and Mariah starts to wonder: are Daniel’s suggestions reasonable? Or has he lost track of the boundary between actor and character? Rushed to the stage, in front of a live audience, they must figure it out together.”
I have a feeling from the trailer that most of the controversy stems from depiction of the female orgasm, which most motion picture organizations think are the vilest things ever. The cast seem to be very normal everyday looking people , I think that enhances any erotic film also… the male lead has an accent!
