These Showers Can Talk<\/strong> was not a traditional sort of sex comedy , like in the vein of Porky’s<\/a><\/strong> or Sex Is Zero<\/strong> (\uc0c9\uc989\uc2dc\uacf5<\/a>) its a comedy that plays on the tropes of sexuality. \u00a0The film centers around Samantha a\u00a0seemingly\u00a0commitment phobic woman and her hilariously akward and\u00a0psychotic\u00a0girlfriend Gloria.<\/p>\n

Samantha\u00a0journeys around New York and finds herself in her friends bathrooms trying to get advice about her relationships issues. \u00a0Every person can relate to what happens next, you go to your friends to whine about your problems only to be forced to\u00a0theirs\u00a0or worst, sit through\u00a0their\u00a0self involved ramblings.<\/p>\n

Samantha’s friends a sports butch, a\u00a0prissy\u00a0lipstick lesbian, a polysexual nympho and the perfect “straight\u00a0girl” \u00a0in their bathrooms are really in\u00a0their\u00a0own little worlds. \u00a0Their insanity get most of the\u00a0laughs\u00a0but never come off insulting.<\/p>\n

The humor of the film works so well because Lindau has a sharp sense of timing. The\u00a0dialogue\u00a0, while improvised never lingers in one place for two long and each\u00a0vignette\u00a0seems to play up to each actresses performance and\u00a0accentuate\u00a0it perfectly. \u00a0Every\u00a0scene’s\u00a0tone is set and\u00a0constant<\/p>\n

What I loved best about his movie was that the\u00a0characters\u00a0, even as “Lesbian\u00a0Stereotypes” were people. I saw my friends on the screen and even a bit of myself. \u00a0 A lot of the good natured humor of the film resonated with me because at the end of the 25 mins I didn’t feel like I just saw a “gay film” but a film about friends helping friends make mistakes in the way that many of us do.<\/p>\n

This film is a very sharp contrast to what is seen in the\u00a0mainstream\u00a0as gay comedy. \u00a0There is no straight character to add a “normative voice” because Samantha and her friends in\u00a0their\u00a0dysfunction\u00a0ARE normal. \u00a0 Their sexuality isn’t a pitfall but a matter of life.<\/p>\n

The one thing i wished this film had was ,well, more of it. Each woman is set up with such in such and interesting\u00a0journey\u00a0\u00a0that I wished they could have all been explored. \u00a0Of course this movie is\u00a0confined\u00a0to just\u00a0the\u00a0showers and vanities making that a little impossible. \u00a0I did find the fact that I came away with so much from each friend even though the viewer gets less that ten minutes with each them showed just how gifted the cast and director are.<\/p>\n

At 25 mins These Showers Can Talk<\/strong> is a quirky tight little comedy that can surprise any woman gay or\u00a0straight\u00a0with a few good\u00a0laughs.<\/p>\n
